Fall / Winter 2011 La LOOP I remember watching The English Patient for the first time. I remember slouching down into a third row seat of a theater in Union Square and not moving for the entire 155 minutes. The image of an injured Katherine Clifton (Kristin Scott Thomas) being carried through the Sahara Desert by Count Almasy (Ralph Fiennes) in her long white tunic against that burnt orange horizon is forever imprinted. The story unfolds through a series of flashbacks and hand written notes that spill out of the Count’s journal against a backdrop of the 1930s and early 40s. The dry, raw authenticity of the desert has long inspired me. Whether it is Joshua Tree or Tanzania, there is a certain feeling of time standing still when you are in the desert. A forever calming quality that lends itself to real-ness. I call it Modern Nomad. This season the new La LOOP Collection comes straight out of Anthony Minghella’s film.
